Saturday 14th May 2011 at the Swansea Waterfront Museum, Swansea Met University hosted an exhibition for the grand finale of their 'Design For Advertising' course 2011.
Opening the show was a real honour. The work, the students and the lecturers were all absolutely fantastic.
The Opening Speech
Good evening everyone. I'm James Good. I own a local design agency, so I guess that makes me the link to the design sector this evening.
Every year this course... which can be defined by the results that you’ll see tonight... gets better and better. And this year’s course is obviously... the best by far!
As you walk around the show this evening and as you talk to the students, you’ll see for yourselves that the standard of graduates coming out of Swansea Met is exactly what the design sector has been crying out for. That’s testament to the lecturers... they really are thinking differently and I’m sure the rest of the design sector would join me in saying thanks for doing such a fantastic job and keep up the good work.
Having a local design business myself, I am delighted to say that a design degree from Swansea Met University is becoming desirable and synonymous with students that are prepared for the real world. These students can now look forward to building on the skills they’ve acquired with a lifetime of continued development in, what I believe to be, the most exciting career there is. They’ll be challenged to frequently see the world through fresh eyes and rewarded for being creative... something that obviously comes naturally.
I did some mock interviews with the students the other day, even under pressure they performed incredibly well. I’d just like to reiterate a point... You’ve been trained well, your work speaks for itself and you’re undoubtedly in the mix with the UK’s best creative graduates. You should all be very proud of yourselves and you should now go forth with confidence.
And finally before getting this show on the road... In a true advertising style... I’d like to leave you with a proposition.
To all the employers in the room... Ask yourself... Got Milk?
Now it's my honour... Swansea Met's 'Design For Advertising' degree show... is open!
