James Good Coach Local WorldSkills Candidate

The James Good team is very excited to have been asked by Swansea University to provide coaching in web design to a UK hopeful for the International competition, WorldSkills. We're pleased to be working with UK Skills, the organisation responsible for selecting and developing a team of young people to compete at the bi-ennial International WorldSkills competition - the skills equivalent of the Olympics.

WorldSkills is a unique, high profile international event involving over 45 countries worldwide and seeing over 1,000 young people compete to be recognised as the best in the world in their skill against competing countries. The skills on show range from web design, aircraft maintenance and pastry cooking to offset printing.

WorldSkills gives each participating country the chance to prove their worth on an international stage in front of over 150,000 visitors expected from 5-8 October 2011 at ExCeL London. Winners will be awarded at an emotionally charged Closing Ceremony, which will be held at the O2 in London.

James Good web developer, Ed Cann, will guide David Bowen (pictured) through his training in web design, as he fights to claim his place on the team chosen to represent the UK this year. David's already proved that he's very good at what he does. Starting as one of the 5,500 who competed at a national level, he made Squad UK through a rigorous assessment process during which 60 candidates were selected. David is one of 2 people in the running to represent the UK for web design, and now needs to develop his skills to an international level to make the team.

David has started what we're sure will be a challenging, but hopefully rewarding, 12 week series of visits to our office this week. He’s completing programming tasks set and overseen by Ed, who will offer advice and suggestions for improvement.

Being a team of talented and highly ambitious individuals, we think that David will fit in well here (other useful characteristics would be a strong will and a caffeine addiction!). The demanding environment that is the James Good office should stand David in good stead to cope with the pressure of competing at the WorldSkills event in October! Rest assured, we'll do all we can to help get David on that team... we'll keep you posted!
